Meet the Team


MR DAVID LAWRENCE

BSc(Hons), MBBS, MS, FRCS(Cth)

Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Clinical Lead of the Thoracic Department at UCLH and Senior Cardiac Surgeon at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts NHS Trust) with more than 25 years experience.


Mr Lawrence graduated from King’s College London and trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery in world recognized hospitals of London, UK. He was awarded an MSc for his surgical research in gene therapy and in 2003. As Thoracic Surgeon he is an experienced surgeon in both conventionally and minimally invasive Thoracic Surgical techniques including Robotic Surgery being fully trained to utilize the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System. As Cardiac Surgeon Mr Lawrence has a vast experience in surgical management of ischaemic heart disease (CABG and mitral valve repair and replacement) and in the pathologies affecting the aortic valve, the aortic root and the ascending aorta.

MR DAVIDE PATRINI

MD FRCS(Eng)

Consultant Thoracic Surgeon, Associate clinical lead of the Thoracic Department UCLH and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at University College London. Mr Patrini undertook his specialist training in Milan, Italy and in the University College London Hospitals (UCLH). He has been a key member of the thoracic unit in UCLH since 2014. He contributed to more than 70 scientific articles and has made many presentations in National and International meetings being also author of 6 book chapters.


Mr. Patrini is reviewer of many scientific journals and ordinary member of several scientific societies: ESTS, EACTS, STS, IASCLC and different interest groups (Chest Wall Interest Group, International Mesothelioma Interest group, International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group).


His main interests are thoracic surgical oncology, pleura, and lung benign diseases in both conventional and minimally invasive approaches.

MR KUNAL BHAKHRI

Med, FRCS(CTh)

Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and Lead of the Da Vinci Robotic program at UCLH. Mr Bhakhri undertook his training at Royal Papworth NHS Trust with a Robotic Fellowship at Guy’s NHS Foundation Trust .


As Thoracic Surgeon he is experienced in both conventional and minimally invasive approaches including Robotic Thoracic Surgery being fully trained for the use of the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System.


Mr Bhakhri holds a distinct position as the regional provider of highly specialized and comprehensive services for adolescents and adults facing common and intricate chest wall deformities and rib pain within the region. This unique offering places us among the select few globally with the expertise to diagnose, assess, and effectively treat these conditions.

He has developed a portfolio as a medical educator with a higher degree in medical education. Mr Bhakhri has applied his higher learning theories in the implementation of robotic thoracic surgical curriculum in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and published in peer review journals.
